Safety and Sea Survival Course - SSSC

"Just a quick note to say thanks for running such a great sea safety survival course and delivering it in such a practical manner. I realised upon comparing notes with other friends who had done the course through different institutions that the level of information imparted was definitely of a higher and more practical standard than some other sailors had received. I don't think I fully understood the importance of this until I was in the unfortunate position of going MOB during a race at night 10 miles offshore in 4m swells and 20 knots of breeze recently and can honestly say that without having done the course there is a good chance I would not have been able to stay afloat or allowed myself to be found for the 20 minute period in which I was in the water. It was just so important, I really think no one should go offshore without having done this course. Particularly the practical component. Thanks again for running such an excellent, well informed program."
50% of crew competing in offshore racing in Australia are required to hold the Safety and Sea Survival course certificate (SSSC) as well as anyone wishing to convert their RYA Yachtmaster certificate to an MCA endorsed Commercial qualification. The Sea Safety Survival course comprises 16 hours, including theory components, a practical liferaft session and a flare demonstration. Learn skills that are essential should an emergency situation arise. Our course is ISAF and RYA accredited. The Sea Safety Survival Course certificate is valid for 5 years. The revalidation course for Safety and Sea Survival is a one day course and can be undertaken provided your certificate has not expired.

Sea Survival training includes advice on what personal equipment to buy and what is not good value. The Offshore Marine Training Australia instructors who teach the course are highly experienced yachtsmen who have encountered severe weather in the Southern Ocean and around Cape Horn.
